W8WWV - S Meter Lite History

Greg Ordy

This page describes the S Meter Lite revision history. You may find it helpful in determining if a fresh download is in order.

The software version number consists of a major and minor version number, in the form of major.minor, 5.8, for example. This would be major version 5, minor version 8. In general, a change in minor version number is associated with relatively smaller program changes that have the property that all existing registry and file data will by compatible with other minor versions in the same major version. The major version changes when it is no longer desirable or possible to reuse all existing information. In this case, the new major version install program will perform a conversion so that the upgrade looks and feels like the older version, to the greatest extent possible.

Most users will find that each newer version, without consideration of changes in major or minor numbering, is subjectively better than the older version, and downloading the newer version is always a good idea. A higher version number is indeed better.  In some cases, changes made across major versions may cause a user to actually prefer an older version. For this reason, the highest released minor version number of each major version number may be available for downloading. Within a major version, however, only the most recent minor version will be available.

The history information listed below details the changes made to a program. This will include bug fixes and feature enhancements. By examining the table, you can determine if a certain version will be of value to you.

Version Maj. Min. Date Description
1.00 1 0 Oct. 1, 2000 Initial release.
1.01 1 1 Oct 17, 2000 Added the ICOM IC-746 as a radio selection. Improved resistance to errors when the radio is in transceive mode (ICOM radios only).
1.02 1 2 Oct 18, 2000 Added S Meter scale calibration points for the IC-746.
1.03 1 3 Nov 2, 2000 Added S Meter scale calibration points for the R7100.
2.01 2 1 Nov 22, 2001 Added Antenna Pattern Plotting.
2.02 2 2 Nov 29, 2001 Added a grab handle to lower right of Antenna Pattern Plotting dialog box.
2.03 2 3 Dec 11, 2001 The COM port selected will assert DTR and RTS. These lines are used in some cases to power low current radio interfaces. Other changes were made to ignore handshaking.
2.04 2 4 Dec 12, 2001 Increased the timeout when first running, in order to give interfaces powered from the modem control lines time to initialize.
2.05 2 5 Dec 18, 2001 Added the display of the plotting area size (in pixels) to the title of the Antenna Pattern Plot dialog box. This makes it easy to reproduce a certain size plot.
2.06 2 6 Jan 8, 2002 Added the Yaesu FT-1000D radio.
2.07 2 7 Feb 8, 2002 Added the ICOM IC-910H radio.
2.08 2 8 Sep 14, 2002 Added the Do not expect command echo check box to the Configure Dialog.
2.09 2 9 Oct 27, 2002 Added the control-s and control-o commands to save and restore the Data Graph window. This makes it easier to separate capture from analysis. Fixed a bug that would cause a fault if you started a plot in 360 degree mode, then switched to 180 degree mode.
2.10 2 10 Dec 2, 2002 Fixed a bug in version 2.09. It was necessary to Run at least once before you could successfully use the control-o (Open) command.
2.11 2 11 Jan 15, 2003 Added Data Logging.
2.12 2 12 Oct 13, 2003 Added controls on the Configuration Dialog Box which allow the states of DTR and RTS on the COM port to be set.
2.13 2 13 Mar 22, 2004 The Index section of the HTML help file disappeared for a minor version or two because of a change to Microsoft Frontpage, which we use for authoring help files.
2.14 2 14 Feb 11, 2007 Added the year, month, and day to the log file data entry. Changed to UTC (GMT) time as opposed to local time.
2.15 2 15 Mar 5, 2007 Cleanup of last change.
2.21 2 21 Aug. 6, 2011 Added support for several radios. FT-950, FT-2000, FT-5000, and Elecraft K3. Added the signal difference ruler.
2.22 2 22 Sept. 15, 2011 Added new default calibration data for the K3 and FT-950, provided by Richard, AI6RW.
2.23 2 23 Nov. 14, 2011 Added support for the TenTec Orion. Added variable sampling rates.
