S Meter Lite Data Logging Dialog Box

This dialog box controls and configures data logging. Logging does not begin until the Run button is clicked. At that time, the file name specified will be opened for appending data. If the file cannot be opened, any errors will be displayed when the Run button is clicked. When the Stop button is clicked, data logging is stopped, and the file is closed. While the file is opened, read sharing is allowed.

It is necessary to specify at least one or more of the four data formats (raw data, S Units, dB, or synthetic dB).

Enable Data Logging

Check this control to enable data logging. This is the single control that enables logging. If there is an error, such as the inability to open a data file, logging will be automatically disabled. In that case, you must remedy the problem, and then enable logging again with this control.

Log File Name

Specify the log file name in this edit control. The current log file name will be shown in this control. If you wish to specify this name by navigating through the file system, use the Browse button.

Browse...

Click on this button to bring up a dialog that is used to specify the name and folder of the log file. When the dialog is closed with the OK button, the updated will name will be placed in the Log File Name edit control.

Logging Period

Select the logging period from the choices on the drop-down list. When the Run button is clicked, data accumulation begins, at a rate of 20 samples per second. When the logging period is reached, the summed data is divided by the number of samples, producing the average data over that period. At the same time, the minimum and maximum values encountered in the period are discovered, and can be optionally logged. All of the data accumulated in the sample period is written to the log file as a single line of text. If the Flush file after each entry control is checked, the data will immediately appear in the file.

Time

Check this control if you want the time of the sample logged in the file.

Raw Data

Check this control if you want the raw data logged in the file.

S Units

Check this control if you want S Unit data logged in the file.

dB

Check this control if you want dB data logged in the file.

Syn. dB

Check this control if you want synthetic dB data logged in the file.

Min/Max

Check this control if you want minimum and maximum data logged in the file. This control applies to each of the enabled formats - raw data, S Units, dB, and synthetic dB.

Flush file after each entry

When this control is checked, data will appear in the file as soon as it is created. If this control is not checked, data will be transferred to the file when the internal data buffer is full. Since this buffer is usually several thousand characters, data may not appear in the file for some amount of time. When the Stop button is clicked, all data is written to the file, and the file is closed.

Syn. dB/S Unit

This control selects the number of dB that are assume for each S Unit in the synthetic dB data format.

Lost Ticks

This control displays the number of ticks lost since logging was started. A lost tick occurs when the radio S Meter data cannot be determined within 50 milliseconds. Data acquisition will be attempted in another 50 milliseconds. A lost tick can be caused by using a slow transfer rate (baud rate) between the computer and the radio, or, because the computer is working on several programs while logging is enabled, and S Meter Lite simply cannot keep up with the sample rate.
